Walk Cycle

Okay, so! The walk cycle! I was honestly more afraid of the difficulty of this assignment than the final dialogue one when looking over our list of projects at the beginning of the semester. Especially given how much I struggled with a simple turn I was absolutely dreading this one. However, after the relative success of the Weight project, I felt much more confident. I knew my limits much better, no longer had to worry about getting tripped up by weird Toon Boom brush issues, and I felt much better about working off my own created drawings over relying purely on reference. I still did struggle a bit with drawing Luz's legs consistently (legs are so hard, second only to hands TT-TT), but I was really happy with the consistency of her bob as well as how well her arm swings synced up with everything.

As I said before, I was much more aware of my limits by the time this project rolled around so I had decided pretty early on that I would be animating on 3's. Despite lessening the overall workload, I was still anxious that animating on 3's would not run smooth enough for a walk cycle as well as not necessarily knowing how to space out each frame. I was pretty sure that I wouldn't, but I did plan on adding more in-betweens if I had the time to smooth things out, however, given that I submitted this assignment way past its due date, I ended up having to go without the extra frames.

That being said, I was really happy with how well everything cycled as well as figuring out how to incorporate a blink mid-cycle in the middle without accidentally having her blink rapidly once per cycle. I was also glad that I didn't struggle with hand drawing each leg and arm frame without relying on reference and instead just trusting myself to gauge everything for once. Overall this was the first animation I made this semester that I finally felt truly proud of. I even posted it to my Instagram and the animation club's discord (it's such a great club, everyone is no nice ;-;)!
